A Stranger in a Strange Land Empty A Stranger in a Strange Land

What once was a vibrant, spiraling metropolis, was now a decadent, ruined shell of a city; Crumbling buildings threatened to simply fall over. Windows were long since shattered away. Cars overturned and burnt to a near crisp. On the outskirts of this former city are high walls, built from strong stone and clay, a testament to old world fortifications as compared to the modern, high chain-link fence only twenty yards away from the walls. Everything past that wall and deep into the city had been claimed by the invader, the Emperor Haseo Ithen, and everything past the fence was still what was claimed by the United States of America.

Suspended high above the ruined city, is the home of the Dark Emperor: The Dark Folly. This giant, floating monstrosity easily rivals the former city of San Fransisco in diameter, and nearly doubles in its height. Even from the fences of the US Forces, they cannot crane their neck enough in order to take in the entire sight of the floating city-fortress. Stretching to only a mile before the walls begin, the site of this horror brings a crushing blow to the moral of troops as they are routinely swapped out to give those stationed there relief. Hostilities, however, between the Dark Folly and the United States, and Earth as a whole had been at a ceasefire for the past twenty three years since Haseo arrived. The Emperor had taken Earth by storm, reducing one of the largest cities of America, along with a good portion of the United States standing forces, to ash and rubble within a few short days. Three weeks after the invasion, ash still rained from the sky from all the fires, creating an 'Ash Blizzard' as the newscasters called it. August twenty-seventh became a national holiday after that, in commemoration of all those that had died during the invasion.

After the destruction of the city and the subjugation of the survivors who had not willingly surrendered when the Emperor had offered the chance, Haseo appeared within the White House during an official statement to the general public and declared that the city had been claimed. He would advance no further than what he had already staked claim to, providing the 'little monkey armies left him in peace'.

That didn't stop each of the respective rulers from stationing their troops on their claimed borders.

The soldiers of Haseo patrolled the walls, often jeering down to the still soldiers with automatic rifles with taunts and laughter. The men patrolling the walls wore ragged armor, and the best way to describe their over-all appearance was simply haggard. Patch-work armor covered their forms, and a variety of weapons were strung to their belts or on their backs, though all of them carried either a bow or a crossbow. Gates on both the wall and the great fence faced one another, on the rare occasion that the President would speak with the Emperor, and only when the Emperor chose to attend such a meeting. Often had been the time when the President would arrive, only to be snubbed by the Emperor.

Currently though, said Emperor was walking through the many halls of his dark fortress within the Dark Folly, his shining serpentine eyes carefully observing his dark walls and lightly running talons along the skulls that lined them in regular intervals. The nearly ethereal lighting of the Dark Folly cast him in its disturbing light, making the formidable, though somewhat unstable creature that was Haseo Ithen appear even more disturbing. Blood red hair that hung freely to his shoulders in jagged locks waved back and forth with each imposing step he took. Metal sabatons, painstakingly crafted to resemble large paws clicked upon the ground, and his trademark crimson tattered half cloak was, as usual, pulled over his shoulders, and giving him an almost wraith like appearance as he moved. Along his shoulders, peeking through the tattered cloth, were spikes of some red material, almost appearing as part of the half-cloak. Peeking over each of his shoulders were the fabulous hilts of Sanguis and Animus, his deadly twin swords. Pommels crafted into hissing snake heads, their eyes seemed to glow from within the rubies set in their spaces.

Two tails curled and swayed behind him, their fur white as freshly fallen snow, while the tips were red, almost as though they'd been dipped in blood. When dealing with the Freyalin Emperor, it was not his features or his face that one had to note in order to understand what lurked behind those serpentine eyes, but it was those tails; by whatever twitch or gently sway they gave, one learned in the mannerisms of the dark lord would understand whether his laugh was genuine, or one that heralded the end of their existence.

Turning sharply to the left to descend a flight of winding stairs, Haseo found himself before a large iron-wrought door. Above this door sat a large statue effigy of a hissing snake head, emeralds set in its eyes. This was the general motif for the Dark Folly. Serpentine creatures depicted with reverence and freely displayed.

For a moment, a smirk played about his features as he thought to one of his first ventures to this world, involving an apple...

He stood in front of the door and crossed his arms before his chest, not reaching for the door. There were no visible door handles, and no obvious hinges, as if the doorway was simply built into the stone. He glared up at the snake head and hissed in a dark, old language. The language of his dead people.

The emeralds of the snake's eyes seemed to flash for a moment, before the snake looked down to him as it closed its mouth. A hissing voice emerged from the stone serpent's mouth, almost in a chuckle. Though none could be so foolish as to describe it as such, as the lack of mirth within the voice would only send a chill down a lesser man's spine.

"Time to recharge the Crystal, milord?" the snake asked, elongating itself from the door frame and flicking a long, stony tongue his way.

"I don't recall asking to be questioned," Haseo said lightly, his hissing, almost genderless voice almost soft. His tails flicked lightly, and the stone effigy backed away suddenly, hissing its apologies. The iron wrought door slowly screeched and something rumbled within the wall, before the door began to slide upwards.

There were no obvious hinges, after all.

Nodding softly, the Emperor advanced into the room as he was bathed in a purplish light. The light illuminated his pale features, giving his nearly white skin an almost violet hue. His eyes rested slowly on the great, floating object in the center of the room, floating above a large pool of swirling, green liquid that bubbled softly. Steps all around led down to the hard, roughly hewn object, giving the chamber a very reverent appearance. Smaller objects, what appeared to be shards of the first, floated around it slowly, connected by faint crackles of power that would emerge now and again. Haseo advanced into the chamber with his nose in the air, with all the arrogance and haughtiness of old royalty. The door slowly slid closed behind him. He would brook no intruders from his own fortress entering as he prepared to do one of the most draining things of his existence, next to being killed of course. He lifted his hands and energy pulsed within them. Slow at first, but rapidly gaining pace as it grew and grew within his hands. His fingers moved intricately as his hands waved about his form, palms facing each other. A thin cord of energy strung between his hands, faint but growing in size and intensity. The center of the cord, where the energies from his hands met, slowly took on a spherical shape, forming into a powerful ball of energy. His hands came closer and closer together and he slowly began to chant beneath his breath, the powerful words that would allow his fortress and the adjacent city around it to remain afloat for another five years.

And would continually rejuvenate him while within the walls of all of the Dark Folly.

The temporal planes around him shifted and warped at the power he was commanding, hands growing closer and closer together. The closer his hands grew, the more heated his chants became, and the stronger the force of the ball of magicka became. His hair and half-cloak were flaring out wildly behind him, the fur on his tails rustling and jerking this way and that.

With a final cry of the last word of power, the Dark Emperor raised his hands above his head and lobbed the magickal ball at the Dark Crystal. The power did not collide as it seemed it would surely have, but seemed to simply melt at the contact, sinking deep within the Crystal. The shards that had been floating around it quickly snapped to, placing themselves firmly on the crystal and its already rough hewn state became more jagged; rather than being the slightly bumpy sphere that it had been, it was now a spiked edifice to the power that was the Dark Folly.

Haseo stood rigid, breathing roughly and a light sweat shining along his brow, features flushed a light lavender color from the exertion and dark blood that coursed through him.

A Stranger in a Strange Land Empty Stranger in a Strange Land ~ Not in Kansas Anymore...

Threshhold is a very interesting method of travel, though it is also imprecise, and subject to Advents. And is only used by a race that call themselves "Nism"... short for orgaNism/mechaNism. Their entire species, created over five million years ago by creatures on their way to extinction, created as a way to carry on their legacy. Which they'd done quite well in all this time, through all the generations that had passed since the last of their Creators had died. Since the original Thousand Pairs had taken to the words "be fruitful and mutiply" with gusto. Ahhh, yes... how does this relate to present events?

Well.........

After five million plus years of procreation, of wandering the universe, a particular individual by the name of Peet, son of Thoee and Deen, his heritage of Ahvviyinn on his father's side and of Rurrumm on his mother's side... this Peet... young, male... a teenager, even though he'd seen over 170 years pass since his birth... well, heh, as is typical for Nism his age, he'd taken to also wandering the universe, to exploring and learning and growing his experience in life. All on his lonesome.

Heh... just like a teenager with his first set of car keys.

Which is exactly how this relates to present events. A male Nism teenager, out for his kind's equivalent of a "joyride", using an inborn tech called Threshhold to walk from world to world... well, actually, to leap from world to world. At this very moment, his desire, to arrive on a planet called earth, somewhere in a city named San Francisco, so he could visit a section of said city refered to as "Chinatown", all of that just for some chicken chow mein. Unfortunately, as mentioned, Threshhold is imprecise, and subject to Advents, which can be caused by either natural or "unnatural" forces. Like someone charging a power-crystal in some alternate dimension occupying the same space on the same world over the same city as.........

To make a long story short, Peet crossed Threshhold from the planet Tha'greth to earth at just the wrong moment, the power wrought to charge this crystal causing enough of a distortion in the multi-dimensional tensor fields of Reality, Peet's "leap" got pulled in. Resulting in his arrival in a place and universe not of his choosing, just in time to witness...

... "Woah... that's impressive!"

Well, no Chinatown and no chicken chow mein, but, wherever this place was, it was certainly interesting. Though there was also no telling if the person/critter standing just a few yards away would appreciate his commentary.........

The Dark Crystal pulsed for a moment, and he already felt the rejuvenating powers sweep through him. While yes, the recharging of the Crystal drained him, making him vulnerable for a moment, the recharged Crystal would correct that matter in short hand. Flexing his fingers, his serpentine eyes roamed over one of his favorite creations for a loving moment. He wondered when Treble would return, but forced those thoughts aside. He would not dwell on the fact that his mate was taking an extended vacation, leaving him by himself with just his servants. It grew boring setting them on fire at times. He felt a pang in his heart, and sighed softly. Things had not been quite the same since his daughter Eindrel and son, Junior (though the boy refused to answer to anything but Dirge now) had moved on to their own lives; Eindrel seemed to be settling into a normal lifestyle, while his son had followed more in line with his own footsteps, dominating the Hawaiian Islands. Last he'd spoken to the brat, he'd set his sights on something called, "The Virgin Islands".

"Honestly, what would that boy need virgins for?" he questioned out loud to no one in particular, when a voice close to him, far too close for his liking spoke up.

... "Woah... that's impressive!"

Jerking away from his reverie, one hand came up to rest on the pommel of a sword while a vicious snarl tore itself across his features, a wave of fury washing over him at finding the chamber to the Dark Crystal defiled with the footsteps of another. The Freyalin paused though, choosing to halt his blade for a long moment. This creature before him... it was completely foreign, an oddity to behold. And yet, it was somehow... familiar...

His hand tightened around the hilt of his sword, while he looked down his nose (An impressive feat considering the creature's size) at the figure before him. His hissing voice slowly slid from his mouth in an irritated tone, his tails thrashing lightly behind him, "You seem somewhat familiar to me... Did I destroy your world?"

Straightening, he hissed out a word of command at the door, which quickly opened. While he'd been assessing the creature before him, his mind had reached out to one of his favored servants and when the door slid open it revealed the gaunt, eyeless figure of the pale Shatiel. The former protector of his children, and the newly promoted Dread Knight Commander. The undead creature walked in slowly, a sword made from what appeared to be the same material as the Dark Crystal in its grasp. He 'looked' over the figure between he and his Lord, before looking to Haseo as he asked, "Should I dispose of this, Emperor?"

"Not yet," answered Haseo, slowly lowering his hand from his sword. "I'm not sensing any hostility..."

Shatiel would have rolled his eyes. Such a thing had never stopped Haseo before.

A Stranger in a Strange Land Empty Stranger in a Strange Land ~ Standing Right There...

Post by Roose Hurro Wed Aug 31, 2011 9:30 am

Peet's eyes had been fastened on the Dark Crystal in fascination... he'd seen many impressive things, and things not so impressive. But this was the first time he'd seen one of these things. And he was impressed. Not at all afraid or even disturbed. But that voice... so familiar, too. Not to mention the face and tails and... ohhh, yeah, him...!

Having arrived on all fours, Peet now stood up, gave the odd creature just arrived a raised eyebrow at its "disposal" question, then turned his attentions back to the one he recognized...

... "No... no, didn't destroy anything of mine, but you did call me 'interesting'... oh, almost three years ago I believe it's been, when we were at that White Lilly Tavern. Heh... I still remember you standing on the bar and yelling about someone touching you...."

Grin.........

Peet looked sideways at "The Eyeless One", eyebrow again raised, along with a ruffle of mane and shroudruff, said shroudruff now a few inches longer, and displaying blue on the feathered tips...

... "See? Not hostile... and really, when a person's standing right there, it's rude to speak as if they have no say in the matter of their 'disposal'... it's not like I'm a rat." Peet crossed his arms over his chest... "I was just looking to pick up some chicken chow mein... and ended up here. And it's not like I'm hiding anything...."

A downward look, another grin...

... "Nope, not hiding a thing........."

A Stranger in a Strange Land Empty Re: A Stranger in a Strange Land

A frown crossed his features as he eyed the creature once again, searching through his memories for the tavern that he spoke of. After a moment, Haseo did indeed remember meeting this creature once before. He'd had his former servant Fargoth with him at the time... A grin touched his features as he remembered the zap that had put the little wood elf to the ground. Shaking away such thoughts, he looked to Shatiel and said, "Fetch a few of the gnomes. We'll make our guest comfortable for now while we decide what to do with him."

Shatiel shrugged lightly and sheathed his strange sword on his back, muttering, "Of course, Milord." Giving a short bow, he swept away with the frayed ends of his cloak dragging along the ground. Haseo, however, crossed his arms to eye his guest as he leaned against the wall.

"We'll be convening in my throne room once the servants are here," he smirked softly, shaking his head at the being before him. "Indeed... it would seem you have either nothing to hide... or the more logical choice of nowhere to hide it. Though, I am quite curious about this chicken chow mein... perhaps later you can help me interrogate some of the prisoners I have in the dungeons. Perhaps you could also aid me in extracting some of their other secrets as well, I've yet to be successful in taking from them."

His serpentine eyes narrowed as he though of his longtime feathered guests...

A moment later his eyes shifted suddenly to a few scampering creatures making their way to the doorway of the room. They stopped short of the entrance however, cowering a bit in the shadows of the doorway. They knew better than to enter the room. as it was strictly forbidden by their master. Short, diminutive with frail appearing bodies and large heads crowned by greying hair, not from age but from fear, they waited patiently with listless eyes and a slackness to their shoulders.

"Good, they've arrived," Haseo grinned slowly when he looked over their broken, wretched forms. The gnomes of his homerealm had been particularly bothersome in their resistance, so it had bred a natural hatred for the resilient creatures within the Emperor. When encountered upon any realm he inhabited, they always suffered a fate worse than death; servitude. "Let us go to the throne room then. Servants! You will attend to Master Peet's needs, as well as having a bowl of Ramen waiting for me when we reach the throne room. MOVE!"

The creatures quickly scampered away to retrieve the Ramen, while the others moved to wait for Peet.
